Decubitus
What is a decubitus?
A decubitus is an area of damage to the skin and/or underlying tissue. It is also known as bedsores or pressure ulcers. More information is available in our Funke Medical Academy.
Who can develop a decubitus?
Anyone can develop a decubitus, regardless of age. People who are immobile for long periods of time or have severely limited mobility are particularly at risk. When too much pressure is exerted on certain parts of the body for too long, the skin and underlying tissue are compressed. This prevents blood from circulating properly in this area, meaning that the tissue is not supplied with enough oxygen and nutrients. Of course, there are various factors (extrinsic and intrinsic) that can contribute to the development of a decubitus. Learn more about this topic in our Funke Medical Academy.
What can you do to prevent a decubitus?
A decubitus is a multifactorial condition. It is important to consider the appropriate care measures and options for pressure relief and treatment in order to ensure optimal treatment. The appropriate aids can be used to support therapy. Our products provide gentle support during therapy with their soft-positioning characteristics.
